The objective of this meeting is to reach out to research-minded clinicians of varied backgrounds, and help them to understand the relevance of genomics in the future of medicine. HUGO is looking forward to welcome leading scientists in the field of genomics to inspire a gathering of young clinicians. This will promote blending of basic, translational and clinical researchers at the interface of genomics and medicine.

Complex Diseases: Approaches to Gene Identification and Therapeutic Management
Kolkata, India
25-26 September 2008
Please view the Invited Speakers (PDF 15k)
Considerable progress has been made in the identification of genes that underlie pathogenesis of complex diseases. However, the progress has been slow, especially because of limitations of large sample size requirements in case-control or family-based studies. Further, even for those complex disorders for which genetic underpinnings have been revealed, approaches to using this information for therapeutic management remain elusive. The focus of this Satellite Symposium will be to discuss novel approaches for gene identification and therapeutic management in comparison with the widely-used approaches.

Collection of Human Gene Variation
HICC, Hyderabad, India
27 September 2008, 08:00-15:00
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we invite you to participate in the Human Variome Project Forum to be held in Hyderabad, India on the 27th of September 2008. This meeting is designed to run as a satellite to the Human Genome Meeting run by the Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) that will be held 27 - 30 September 2008 and will finish just prior the HGM Plenary session. This day is primarily for those attending the Hyderabad meeting to hear and speak about mutation collection, etc and network with attendees.

Genomics, Model Organisms and Disease
Bangalore, India
1-2 October, 2008
The symposium is being organized as a satellite meeting to the international Human Genome Symposium being held in India this year (Sept 2008). The focus of the satellite symposium is to highlight genomic approaches in model organisms and the relevance of these genomic approaches in furthering understanding of complex diseases and drug discovery. The range of model organisms covered includes invertebrates (Drosophila and C. elegans), and vertebrates (Zebrafish and mouse) with a few related talks on human disease. The topics to be covered are: i) whole genome chemical and siRNA screens; ii) microarray screens in disease models; iii) genetic approaches for target validation.
Scientific Organisers: Gaiti Hasan (NCBS, TIFR), Sandhya Koushika (NCBS, TIFR), Maithreyi Narasimha (DBS, TIFR), Partha Majumder (Co-Chair, NOC, HGM2008), Samir Brahmachari (Chair, NOC, HGM2008).
